Upgrade Ubuntu distribution from 20.10 to 21.04 using GUI.
At first, perform a backup, ensure that you have a bootable version of the operating system if something goes wrong, and reserve some free time. Did I mention a backup?
Check out the update-manager utility.
Use it to check if a new Ubuntu release is available.
Select upgrade button to start the process.
The distribution upgrade will start preparation process.
Confirm the upgrade process.
The distribution upgrade will begin shortly.
Remove obsolete packages.
Restart the operating system.
Done.
Additional notes
You will be asked to keep or replace changes to the local configuration files. This will be a simplified solution, but I will keep local changes and inspect these at a later time. Terminal utilities provide a better solution at this point.
Inspect and fix any potential issues.
